  • So Bruce, in his first symbolic gesture as Prime Minister

designate, visited the graves of his parent(s) and of past JLP prime ministers at Heroes Circle. I can't imagine Bush laying flowers only the monuments of Republican presidents, but...

For me, this does not indicate to me that Bruce wants to break down the tribalism that is wrecking this country.

    Same old, same old?

true...considering there is only one deceased former pnp prime minister.

I read no more into it than he was just reflecting on the roots of the JLP, a party that has floundered for a while, and has now re-earned the confidence of a majority of the nation's electorate. He is likely pledging and reflecting that he will return the party to prominence and to pursuing the goals of the founders, which were all about advancing Jamaica, the country.

Mosiah's post is disingenuous. Bruce's speech on Monday night, was full of quiet and calm confidence and full of graciousness. It has been a long time since a Jamaican leader showed and earned such respect on such a night. Maybe only Norman Manley has been as gracious, though that was before independence.

Bruce has spoken about a heightened role for the opposition. He did so before, during and after the campaign. He is the PM of all of us now. Unlike his two male PM predecessors, he has been extremely respectful of his opponent, even refusing to participate in answering questions about her intellect. He has, clearly, opted to combat ideas, not people. Please do not ascribe negative things to his actions so easily, especially without proof. If you must though, please discuss both possible positive and negative motives and do not just continue the bad blood.

You might have missed my posts since election night. I have lauded Bruce's speech and wished for him all the best, even while chiding Karl and others for continuing with the tribalism. So, how come my post is disingenuous? Why isn't Bruce's actions disingenuous since he was the one calling for unity and working together and all those nice things? Maybe his speechwriter should have planned his day for him yesterday as well!

I find it hard to believe that you, Westman, one of the less cult-like figures on this board, has failed to see how this gesture by Bruce will certainly send the wrong message to the people of Jamaica.

My vigilance will not stand in the way of my support.

It shall be extremely difficult to be doing kiss and hug-up when the media is still attacking the PM at every occasion. Certainly the impression is being given from the airwaves that the PM should be stamped underfoot....tarred and feathered. Continuing attacks demand resistance. One has no choice if one wants to 'live'!

It is the heights of stupidity to continue to bloody the opponent's nose and demand kisses and hugs that must be given with love. Yup! You may receive the 'kisses and hugs' but they will be given with false smile on face and murder in heart.

The calls for the 'kissing and the hug-ups' in such an atmosphere says loud and clear - WAR!

So, if that is happenning, how is it Bruce's fault? And what does that have to do with his visiting the burial places of JLP leaders after bringing the JLP back after 18 years? He is just reflecting that so far he has been a good shepherd. He has brought the party back from the cold to leadership.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance!

Possibly. There is a saying that "perception too is reality". If BG wants to be considered the leader of ALL jamaicans he should be very aware of how is actions will be perceived, as that is how he will be judged, not by the words that come out of his mouth.

Post-elections should be a time of national consolidation and partisan politics MUST take a backseat.

For this reason I have little respect for the ruling party in T&T who continue to wear their party tie in Parliament while representing a constituency with voters who would have supported the opposition. This to me is unethical and should never be allowed to happen.
