    Don't care

This thing is also about getting a rep in parliament who don't have to worry too much about corrupt pork barrel politics. They can keep the SESP fund locally, whatever it is. I bet you you there is some sort of corruption going on with the SESP fund. What is it? I bet you the MP's area leader getting a huge cut out of this thing.

If you insist then they can use it to support the Jamaicans who run into trouble here and need help. For example, those on student visas who are suffering during the school break.

Sound reasonable except that the overseas vote alone could decide who gets elected in each local consituency. That would not be fair to the people who live yard. Just give me one MP for all the diaspora.

I'm laughing - is the consensus that a Jamaican living outside of Jamaica should not vote because he/she has citizenship elsewhere - because that person " run whey" from the country?

But on the other hand, mi notice that when one of the "run whey" Jamaicans do well in foreign - even if them run whey at age 2, we embrace them, nice up and print a story e.g. 'Jamaican born pilot flies around the world solo."

Disclaimer: While I ardently follow the development in Jamaica, I have no interest in voting in those elections.

change course. The People of Portland are depending on your educated vote.

You get the impression the people of Portland intend to change course?

that is a hard one Lazie.

I think West Portland will but Rhodd is rooted in East Portland from his family connections and the other candidate is not really a strong one, although there is a lot to be desired from Rhodd representation.

I've been following this thread all weekend. All now no one has addressed the fact that there are Jamaicans ... STUCK in Jamaica that are being denied their rights to vote via the reverification scam.

Wherever the Elections Commision can eradicate fraudulent voting they should do so.

It may not be easy in a garrison as intimidation etc. play a great part in how people vote.

My point is that if there is a possibility of fraudulent voting because it takes place OUTSIDE the country then we had better make sure that the proper mechanisms are in place. Conceptually I don't have strong feelings either way, whether diaspora can vote or not. Persoanlly, I don't feel the need to vote in JA elections as I don't think I have enough tangibly at stake in the island, other than a desire to see the island prosper and flourish.

agreed. not everyone feels that way though and, if given the opportunity, they take the time and effort to get enumerated then that is indicative of the fact that they have taken an interest in jamaica and what nis going on there.
