    The troubling question behind Rush Limbaugh's words

    This week lawmakers in Iowa are debating whether a teacher can say "Pete Buttigieg is gay" in the classroom without first notifying parents.

    I wish I were kidding but I am not.
    The bill, which was introduced by 13 Republicans and advanced to the full House Education Committee on Monday, would require that lessons touching on the topic of sexual orientation or gender identity first be approved by parents, who would then have the option of sending a note to the principal excusing their children from class.
    Rep. Sandy Salmon, R-Janesville, one of the bill's sponsors, reportedly was not clear whether mentioning in, say, a government class that Buttigieg has a husband would require permission (it "might," she said).

    Not skirting your topic. But Sanders and Buttigieg would be fodder for trump.

    The 'socialist' and 'gay' stigma are very tough sells on the general population.

      Dont put Buttigeig in Bernies class,all the democratic contenders have hijacked Bernies socialist platform and reinvented a wheel. Besides tax cuts for the rich and corporations is socialism for the wealthy.

        I fully agree with you HL. IF you notice, Trump has started tagging him as 'socialist'. See what is happening in Nevada regarding his healthcare plan? My concern is that those who support Bernie will be 'ridiculous' as per Sara Silverman and start with the Bernie or Bust mantra.

          Trump start,when did he stop? Nothing new,what's new is every democratic candidate have adopted and molded aspects of Bernies socialist message.

          They have finally figured out the catch phrase to counter it,tax cuts for the rich/ corporations is socialism/ subsidizing the wealthy.

              Repeat after me, tax cut for the rich and corporations is socialism for the wealthy.

              You think that doesnt strike a message of these rich fat cat socialist living off tax cuts on the backs of the poor and middle class.

                Lazie!!! Never use the words fair, honest, upright, etc. when you're talking about the Democrats or Republicans. Greed, corruption, dishonesty, betrayal, etc. are at the core of both these political parties, and if any of their politicians "step out of line", they'll either end their careers or render them ineffective. Both political parties' hands are covered with the blood, both literally & figuratively, of people they deemed a threat.

                  Lazie & H.Lare just terrified of Trump getting another term "weak hearts", but Bloomberg as we are getting to see and know, is nothing more than a "light weight " as Trump said in other words a light Trump clone.

                  Some weak hearts would rather the closet racist,misogynist or xenophobe. I wonder how far his money will take him until he has to answer for his unvieling.He is smart enough to own it and apologise, unlike Trump, but hey some blacks are the forgiving type.

                  This B.S that democratic socialism is going to scare voters away was debunked the last time they had to steal the nomination away from Bernie.It looks as if they are trying to buy it away this time.

                    Okay, I will concede that. However, while the Dems abide by some rules, the GOP only care about winning .... by any means necessary.

                              The Democratic party has some of the pieces to truly transform into the party of the people & of real change, BUT there are some entrenched Democratic members in congress & the senate that need to be removed. There also needs to be a focus on teaching Civics, at all levels of the society, because ignorance is the biggest cause for a lot of the problems. If that doesn't happen, then the same BS will continue, where both parties will cut deals to maintain the status quo.
