  • Why Jamaica is lagging

    in graduating trained science students

President of the Mico University College, Dr Asburn Pinnock, has asserted that Jamaica continues to lag behind in the output of students leaving tertiary institutions with training in science and technology because it has failed to make the necessary investments.

“Every country in this world that are doing well today, that we talk about a lot - Singapore, China, Japan, North America, Europe - it’s because they have invested heavily in science and technology. They have invested heavily in human resources, students and in their females,” Pinnock said.

...All along I believed that having the "leading industry" be serving fat tourists using largely imported consumables and low-skill labor is Jamaica's path to progress! Following that dummy argument led me astray

Robotics Participants Double For Second Year - 16 Schools To Get Debut In Championship

      Published:Friday | February 14, 2020 | 12:27 AM

The second staging of the FIRST Tech Challenge Jamaica National Robotics Championship was launched at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Wellness & Recreation Centre yesterday.

The championship will be held on February 28 and 29 at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, Jamaica College.

The NCB Foundation is the title sponsor and CEO Nadeen Matthews Blair said the number of participating schools has increased from 14 in the inaugural year to 30.

“The programme deals with the technical competencies of the young people, but one of the things I most appreciate about the programme is the development of the communication skills, the integration of teamwork, and collaboration, and that is very deliberate,” Matthews Blair said

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

This is not Guess & Spell or Happenstance ...

... The Education Revolution underway via TEAM Works is a commandment from a key representative of the Most High ~100 years ago...

In our homes and every other place we must teach the higher development of science to our children and make sure that we become a race of scientists par excellence. For in spirituality and science lies the only hope to withstand the evils of the modern era

            STEM careers and robotics

Self-navigating *vehicles, intelligent networks, *machine-to-machine *learning, robotics, artificial intelligence, *cryptocurrencies and a host of other technological *breakthroughs, once *considered *farfetched, are *revolutionising careers and businesses all over the world.

The days when robotics was a thing of the future of science fiction are long gone; robotics is very much a scientific fact in 2020. This digital revolution, or the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is charting the pathway for future generations.

Jamaica, like the rest of the world, understands the importance of a *technologically enabled society and *prioritises this in its vision 2030 Development Plan.

To accomplish this goal, the Government of Jamaica has declared its focus on proponents of STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math) in schools. Globally, “both private and public sectors report that 21st-century workers require skills that many of today’s graduates don’t have. Students need more in-depth knowledge of math and science, plus the ability to integrate and apply that knowledge to solve the challenges facing our nation. Children who study STEM also develop a variety of skills that are essential for success: critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration, and entrepreneurship, to name a few
