  • Corruption: To the top ,breaking the cycle

During the 26-plus years I have been writing this column, the level of government corruption in Jamaica has been a constant public concern, no matter which party has been in power.

I always believed its a contitutional problem.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Garvey referred to Jamaica in this period as "the place next to hell."

I read something in the Jamaica Observer today and am still wondering if what I read was correct. In essence, the article said that it is normal protocol for an outgoing cabinet member, whether leaving office because of a change in government, being fired by his own gov, or by cabinet reshuffle, it is his resposibility to destroy all his documents. This is his legal responsibility as long as he maintains a Certificate of Destruction. In fact this is the argument being forwarded by Reid-the-thief for destroying all documents pertaining to CMU. He said they were destroyed in keeping with protocol and not to obstruct investigation into CMU wrongdoing. Is Jamaica for real?. Sounds like something typical of a Wesminster pseudodemocracy. Can you imagine the Secretary of Defense shredding all his documents before leaving office in the US?.

The Abyssinians in their song Declaration of Rights said its "worser than hell". So true on the former slave plantation island.

Marcus Garvey : Prophecy being fulfilled " the place next to hell ", the corruption commission was in itself, corrupt! We have a constitutional problem of separation of powers, where the judiciary is intrinsically tied to the political ,by nepotism or political ties, it's going to take monumental internal and external pressure to severe that.I am hopeful because one party has begun the call to " lock them up " not out of any patriotic duty but political expediency, which will lead to the same by its adversarial party. The end result will be a move of the needle to do same, which will open a crack, then a seep, then the deluge. I cant wait to see the look on those who think the little economic movement of which they call progress ,will not be enough to stop it.
