New master plan for SIA

MBJ Airports Ltd is working to transform Sangster International Airport (SIA) into a showcase of Jamaica with the expansion of the departure terminal and commercial area under its new master plan.

The airport operator has selected “one of the world's leading engineering firms” to develop a new master plan in consortium with seven local firms, MBJsaid in a recent news release.

“MBJ is focusing on infrastructure improvements that leverage the latest technology while improving the experience for passengers by transforming SIA into a reference for efficiency and service and a bastion of Jamaican culture,” the release said.

Vernamfield Development Project To Begin October


Activities for the first phase of the US$2.5-billion Vernamfield development project in Clarendon are expected to get underway by the end of October.

This is according to Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister Mike Henry who said activities will include de-bushing and clearing of the existing runways.

Dubbed the ‘Aerotropolis Vernamfield’, the project involves the development of lands that previously housed an army base, an aerodrome to provide international air cargo and logistics services, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, and an aeronautical training school.

Henry said the Aerotropolis Vernamfield will offer bulk, manufacturing and logistics facilities as well as business to over 150 countries in Asia, the Americas, Western Europe and Africa’s West Coast.
