Heard a piece on NPR where gold prospector heading to Haiti. They say a because of what they think is a government that is currently serious about developement. They said it may have a huge reserves but as the journalist say these people usually stretch the truth.

The local people in these districts want to know what is in it for them.
It seems like interesting times ahead for Haiti.

Gold didn't help Jamaica and the prospect of oil or the discovery of it won't help Jamaica either.

Same with Haiti.

Well them seems to have a government who is trying to fight corruption and that can lead to growth if they are successful. I agree with you that gold or oil by itself can't help us. Afterall we have comodities such as Bauxite and Blue Mountain Coffee, Ackee which draw premium price in the overseas market and it seems not to matter any.
