  • The Civil war continues

In a series of tweets this month, Mr. Trump criticized Mr. McConnell publicly, then berated him in a phone call that quickly devolved into a profane shouting match.

Democrats are playing it smart,if you notice they have talking heads making points in the airwaves.Obama and Hillary are out of sight ,wise move!

If they get involved that would unify the repugs,so let them implode. They slowly turn on their own,the blood start flowing slowly, the questions of his mental faculties rise, the streets start to simmer before it burns.

Dem will wait till Jan,to start tearing him apart. If he shuts down the gov over the wall,he is out before christmas.

Mentally unhinged! He can and will get worse.

We will see how smart when they lose more seats in the Senate next year.

Unlikely ,the worst thing they can do now and i repeat now,is jump in the middle of a civil war,The senate will more than likely be split or 2 to 3 seats in favour of the dems next year.

Jumping in now ,makes them a convenient republican/trump scape goat.

I agree, it makes no sense for the Democrats to start pushing anything right now. Let the Repugs implode along with their leader. Trump sucks out the air in the news and anything that the Democrats come with right now will get lost among the noise.

Just like both Republicans and Democrats alike waited for him to implode in the nomination process, and then in the election.

The amount of "..this must be the beginning of the end" quotes I have seen for Trump over the last 2 years boggles the mind.

Given the Senate seats that are up for grabs next year, its very possible that the Democrats will lose a few more. The Republicans can choose to either embrace or distance themselves from Trump, whichever option works for that particular candidate.

Bottom line, the Republican party is in bad shape generally speaking, and the Democrats are in worse shape generally speaking. They are spectacularly uninspiring.

That card about loss or gain in the senate can be played any way depending on who is stronger or weaker, you assesment on that is speculative ,as is mine ! That will be borne out in next years senate races.

Its hard not to see residual self inflicted Trumpism damage, not affect all involved i.e Trump ,the repugs and his base.

We will see,its early yet, whats it 8 months and no major legislative action has taken place, the closer it gets to the Jan,the more unlikely it gets and the repugs/trump will erupt into a full blown civil war.

Even a small one benefits the democrats going into the senate races.

                  We will see.

No its not speculative, it is maths. More Democrat senators are up for re-election than Republicans, including a number of marginal seats now held by Democrats.

They will need a total Republican meltdown to hold on to what they have or gain a few. Possible, but I wouldn't bet on it. McConnell is a very shrewd politician and not at all wedded to Trump.

That is true, but it's too early for the Democrats to start pushing any election agenda right now. Their message, whatever that is, will not get through all this noise. The war is about to start when Congress reopens.

                        Check this out:

Even if Democrats were to win every single 2018 House and Senate race for seats representing places that Hillary Clinton won or that Trump won by less than 3 percentage points — a pretty good midterm by historical standards — they could still fall short of the House majority and lose five Senate seats.

The problem is that the noise will not abate under Trump. This is the new normal level of noise, they have to adjust to it.

Islandman, I have to agree with you ... the Dems seems to be willing to let an apportunity pass them by.
