In reference to Obama, Dr Garvey said he has ensured that the request for a pardon “is absolutely on his desk, so it’s not that he doesn’t know about it”. However, the national hero’s son has accused Obama of a lack of focus on Marcus Garvey and the case overall.
“He was here in Jamaica... he didn’t visit my father’s site, he turned left and went to the centre for soldiers who fought for the British Empire. This is very interesting that he would honour those Jamaicans and wouldn’t honour the first national hero. but anyway, that was his choice. So that has brought us up to date and I decided to make an effort to put this on his desk,” Dr Garvey said.
