Milwaukee police arrested a man at the parking garage of the downtown Hilton Hotel.
The suspect was trying to steal a brass fitting from a fire pipe. He dropped a bag of several of the fittings. Milwaukee has had a rash of thefts of copper items, because of the high price of copper.
However, the criminal did not know that the hotel was hosting a convention of The Blue Knights, an organization of motorcyle police
officers, current and retired.
A guest at the hotel, a retired police officer who is a member of the Blue Knights, tackled the suspect and held him until police arrived.
