I think Health savings accounts are almost certainly going to be expanded as part of repealing and replacing Obamacare. Can't repeal it with nothing to replace it.

Social Security and Medicare reform, long overdue but very difficult to do. It's either raise taxes or cut benefits and since Republicans are tax cutters it looks like it will have to be reduced benefits. That is Paul Ryan's baby, let's see if he is brave enough to do it.

White House Exposes Trump’s Job-Saving Carrier Deal – Issues Perfect Response

The White House just rained on Donald Trump’s parade and exposed it for what it really is: a publicity stunt.



Over the last few days, Trump has been boasting that he personally saved over 1,000 manufacturing jobs in Indiana by “negotiating” a deal with them to keep them from outsourcing to Mexico.

That may be true. But – here’s the thing – that’s just one plant. It’s only a band-aid to the hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs in the United States. And – the White House wanted everyone to know that by comparing what Trump did to President Obama’s record so far in the White House.

Here was what Press Secretary Josh Earnest had to say about Trump’s deal with Carrier:


“I know that the president-elect has indicated that he deserves credit … for that announcement, and I guess what I would observe is that if he is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record of manufacturing jobs that were created in the United States while President Obama was in office,” Earnest said.

“There were 805,000 manufacturing jobs that weren’t just protected or saved, but actually created while President Obama was in office,” he said.

It is quite weak, but might be repeatable because of the path he took. Trump won the electoral college with states to spare. Didn't even need Florida.

It will be interesting to see how he goes about solidifying his base. That is assuming he is even interested in re-election. Perhaps he just wants to setup the Trump empire to dominate worldwide.

The situation is totally unpredictable.

Cutting medicare and Social is a kin to cutting public sector in Jamaica. Should have been done in the late 90s, PJ skip it, Portia, Bruce and Portia. Let us see if it can be done in a politically smart and informed way.

Willi!!! Don't believe that BS. No one threatened to pull any Federal contracts - It was a straight up CON. United Technologies/Carrier kept about 1100 jobs in the U.S. (but for how long), and they get $7M+ from the state (Indiana), as well as a nice payout from the Federal government (which the public may never know about).......Carrier already employs over 3,000 in Monterrey, which means they will gain over 1,000 new jobs.

Bottom line is that Carrier just received $7M + incentives of tax payer money from Indiana + MORE from the Federal Government (which they most likely won't disclose).......Indiana keeps about 1100 jobs, for now, while Monterrey receives the same, in new jobs from Carrier, giving them over 4000 jobs, total.
