  • Dems Convention: Are we surprised that the talking heads

claimed the night was rocky or worse?

We should not be! Talking heads have a way of living in a reality far outside of reality.

    Just take the polls?
You tell me how in a country that has 45% firm voting block on each side a small 3% of swing votes and 7% who never vote. btw - Those are my approximations. Tell me if those figures are on concept in the ball park how you are expected to buy-in the talking heads sell that close polls on possible outcomes is not what should be but total surprise?

They try and try to sell us bull-**** so often that it appears they have come to believe their bull-****. Sure there could be a blow out in Electoral College tally...but on actual votes? Bull-****!

If Trump is bad...and he is! ...and Hillary is infinitely far better 'by miles'...which she is! It shall still be close in popular votes. That is, as Lazie is fond of saying, "keeping it real"!

I thought the night went great! ...it was crazy to think Bernie's supporters would not make their position known. It was pure commonsense to allow them space to do same. It was great the planned roll out of candidates and speeches to bring their disappointment into perspective and get them to face the reality of a Trump presidency.

The talking heads stuck to their attempts to deny reality and claim appreciable numbers of Bernie's supporters would never vote for Hillary. To do that they had to deny their often cited pollsters. ...but let us face the reality that such gymnastics when dealing with truth should not surprise us. That is what talking heads do...mislead and too often, lie!

It was a great night! The entertainment - singing, comedy - the speeches...Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be proud!

Black Lives Matter even got a word or two in during Cory Booker's speech.

Imagine Paul Ryan or RNC chair Priebus being chased from the Republican Conference the night before it started. Dems would say Republicans in civil war!

Imagine Trumps name being booed whenever mentioned on stage the first night of the convention, and the Duck Dynasty guy on stage telling Cruz supporters they are being ridiculous. Dems would say Republicans in civil war! The center cannot hold!

These things happen at the Dem convention, along with a few great speeches,Dems say fantastic start to convention!

I agree with you that the popular vote is not an absolute indicator of the closeness of the electoral college. Similar to how in the Westminister system you can get 45% of the vote and still lose the number of seats in a landslide.

However the media knows it is easier to understand and is also a pretty good indicator of who is "ahead" at any particular point in time. Only in very rare occasions does the winner of the popular vote lose the election.

As things stand right now I think Trump has a fighting chance, Clinton is one more bad story away from falling behind. That is truly shocking given who Trump is and what he represents.

When Karl on board him fully on board and everything g is seen through those rose coloured glasses.

It was not a good look for the Dems at all in respect of the emails and the booing which to be honest the Bernie supporters have a right to feel miffed.

They should thank their lucky stars that Bernie did not through them under the bus and appealed to his supporters which is what I am sure calmed down the situation somewhat.

And I'm sure Trump has that one bad story tucked away until a couple days before the election. Whether it's true or not, it won't really matter. Trump will tweet it, give it life the next day in the media and prepare for the gaudiest of inaugurations!

Meanwhile, I'm revising my resume to reflect relevant and recent wall construction experience while working for the NHT.

It started it a total disaster, no doubt.

But once it got going, it soared!! Absolutely!

No doubt we would hear all over the media how Trump is destroying the party if the same happened last week.

Preacher mentioning hillary and getting bood during prayer. The great Michelle saved the night. Otherwise it would have been a disaster, even with CNN and MSNBC working actively for the DNC.

You are a hard man to please!
OK! The convention is a mess!
                    Satisfied?

For the record I thought both days were well organised...and flowed well.
I thought the GOP's was a great mess!

On messaging alone the Dems have so far outshone and outpaced the GOP by light years!

Let's face facts - Anyone endorsing Trump, all other things being equal (...and they are not)...is a racist. ...fooling self or knew that all along!

Speaking of that first day - So you are saying you heard unending booing during the entire day? ...or was it 'on and off'? ...and the way the event flowed was a disaster? ...the speakers were as vapid or disturbing as the GOP speakers? ...unmitigated disaster start through 1st, 2nd, 3rd...etc., etc., to end? ...all those weaving of open or subliminal hit on Trump runing through-out without being jarring? Total disaster? That overt play of positive messages? Foolishness?

                      Cognitive dissonance? ...indeed?

The second night has been quite good and things continue to move in the right direction. That is a good sign and something that didn't happen with the Republicans. Yes overall the Dems have a much more positive message, but then again we are not who Trump is appealing to. For those people the message of bringing back the 1950s probably does sound positive.

The President tonight should really take things to the next level. I am feeling a lot better now about how things will be after the convention are over.

Let's just hope Wikileaks doesn't have a smoking gun to use against Clinton.

That is true! ...being a member of the TEAM putting in full effort is it! ...but it does not mean blinding myself to the totality of the reality. Only facing truth gives knowledge that must be used to make informed decisions.

I would have been surprised if some Bernie supporters were not hurting and did not express same. The passion showed by his supporters showed on using logic, that strong expression of hurt would be there.

...and even as the Bernie supporter decides to vote for Hillary some hurt shall remain for a long time. It boils down to defeating Don Trump and putting Hillary the democrat in the White House.

The entire convention was geared to putting a credible alternative to Donald Trump in the White House. So far, the statements about OUR convention being a disaster is fantasy! It defies logic! Those who make such a claim are as Islandman asks us to, 'examine "cognitive dissonance"'. In my view finding those who consider the first day of the convention brilliant execution and in the specific instance of aim to 'turn' most of, the vast majority of Bernie's supporters around to visible support for Hillary, A TREMENDOUS ATTEMPT BRILLIANTLY EXECUTED! The results were there for all to see - from the passionate presentation of "the why" on making that turn that ran consistently throughout. The results showed successes! Tremendous successes!

The Wikileaks second email dump is indeed concerning. Bill humanized Hillary last night and told stories about her and her important work prior to public life that even the reporters didn't know. She needed those surrogates last night to speak on her behalf. I was impressed about all her unsung achievements that no one knew about. Comparing her community work as a private citizen, and her drive for improving the lives of children and poor women's affairs to Donald Trump's, is like comparing Bob Marley to L.A. Lewis.
