Never mind that millions died in the Congo in the last decade, never mind how many people in the Middle East have been killed by wars in last 15 years. Apparently those deaths don't count, it's only when two dozen Europeans or North Americans die in some unusual fashion that the end of the world must be near.
People just don't want to see data that contradict thier dearly held beliefs. That's why Trump and other politicians can say whatever they want to hear and they accept it. Ask any Diehard Republican if the unemployment rate is worse or better today than it was under Bush , I guarantee upwards of 70% will say it was better under Bush.
