  • Hemp: Agricultural Savior In Italy

“We found ourselves at a crossroads, we had to decide whether to leave or to stay,” says Fornaro. “We decided to stay to defend our land.” To do that, he turned to marijuana plants, which can absorb toxic substances from the soil and neutralize them. The fist time hemp was used for environmental rehabilitation was after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine.

“We started recovering our land using hemp,” Fornaro says proudly, as he stands in a field, surrounded by chest-high cannabis plants. The three-month-old crop is verdant and fragrant. The strong, sweet scent of marijuana coming from the three-hectare field contrasts strongly with the fumes from the nearby steel plant, which still employs 14,000 people.

The healing of the nation ,could it do same for lands damaged by bauxaite ?

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

    X, Jamaica don't need another low-skill industry.

BTW: Land damage based on bauxite mining was physical. ALCAN of Kirkvine did a good job on land reclamation. ALPART and others did a fair job imo.

Oh, you're talking about those caustic (red) ponds:

Yes, they are not environmentally friendly. That's dead land right there.

BUT: Considering that those ponds take up maybe <1/10 0f 1% of the actual mined lands...would not consider that significant impact.

Most of the reclaimed lands have good into beef production. ( If you plant hemp on it...the cow dem might get red).
