UK Pound Plunges as Referendum Results Point to EU Exit

By DANICA KIRKA AND JILL LAWLESS, ASSOCIATED PRESS LONDON β€” Jun

Britain entered uncharted waters Friday after the country voted to leave the European Union, according to a projection by all main U.K. broadcasters. The decision shatters the stability of the project in continental unity forged after World War II in hopes of making future conflicts impossible.

The decision raises the likelihood of years of negotiations over trade, business and political links with what will become a 27-nation bloc. In essence the vote marks the start β€” rather than the end β€” of a process that could take decades to unwind.

The "leave" side was ahead by 51.7 percent to 48.3 percent with more than three-quarters of votes tallied, making a "remain" win a statistical near-impossibility.

IT’s official - Britain votes to leave EU

London, United Kingdom (AFP) - Britain has voted to break out of the European Union, striking a thunderous blow against the bloc and spreading panic through world markets Friday as sterling collapsed to a 31-year low.

Investors scrambled to sell the pound, oil and stocks as Britain took a lurch into the unknown, becoming the first country to quit in the EU's 60-year history, a culmination of decades of suspicion over European aims of creating an ever-closer political union.

Voters decided 52 percent to 48 percent in favour of quitting the bloc with 374 out of 382 regional results declared.

Yeah it is difficult to see the EU surviving this as the powerful force it now is.That experiment has failed.

For some reason it makes a Trump victory on this side of the world seem like less of a long shot. Interesting times ahead.

What are the implications for other common markets like the African Union, CARICOM and the rest of them? Are they all failed experiments?

The E U will survive not as we know it,but it will survive ,its all about citizens wanting to be put 1st socially, multi billion dollar corporations will continue to do business to meet its needs.

Can't see any changes in NATO esp with terrorist threats and Russia, that will only get closer. If the social needs aren't what they expect post Brexit, they are going to beg to get back in again ,with social changes to meet their niche citizenzy, wasnt that what they campaigned for,( to leave ) and renegotiate a better form of governance with the EU.Which I expect,i ts a market only bettered by the USA and China.
