  • Doing the Paulwell 'shuffle'

    published: Tuesday | July 10, 2007

Paulwell doing something to music at the Half-Way Tree meeting.
The music was ripping through the air at Half-Way Tree Sunday night. Phillip Paulwell's greeting stood out, not because of what he said but what he did.
Making his way to the platform, while Mr. Vegas's Tek Weh Yu Self played, the minister pulled off a dance-looking movement that resembled the early '90s disco dance 'Running Man' and an amateur ice skater trying to fall face ward. It was strange, but nonetheless, the crowd loved it.
Minister Roger Clarke came up to the Raging Bull song sometime after. Many thought he was about to start dancing, but the man obviously knows his limits - and chose not to.
At 7:45 p.m. the howls of the crowd drowned the music over the speakers when Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller arrived.
She did not grace the anxious ears of the crowd until an hour after, when she spoke her first words, a recital of Psalm 19:14.
This was not what the crowd was eagerly waiting to hear, the Prime Minister knew it as well, but she made no hurry in getting to the meat of the matter. At the stroke of 10:30 p.m. Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller announced that the elections will be held on the 27th of August and Half-Way Tree went crazy.
