Man who slapped MP denied bail

The 25-year-old man charged in connection with last week's assault on outgoing Member of Parliament K. D. Knight was remanded when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrates Court in St. Catherine on Monday.

The accused Creary Knight of Bottom Jackson, Sligoville was ordered to return to court on July 9.

The Presiding Magistrate ordered that he undergo psychiatric evaluation on Tuesday.

It is expected that the report will help determine how the court should proceed.

Mr. Knight was slapped in the back of the head by Mr. Creary while chairing a People’s National Party (PNP) constituency meeting.

He fled the stage and was later set upon by PNP supporters and stabbed and beaten.

Dreadlocks on murder charge gets bail extension
      By Michael Mclean, Star Writer
Patrick Huie, the 47-year-old dreadlocks of Pepper district, St. Elizabeth, who is facing a murder charge for the stabbing death of 42-year-old Collin Edwards, unemployed of the said address, is to reappear in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on July 23.
The accused had his $350,000 bail extended when he appeared in the Santa Cruz RM Court before RM Evan Brown on Monday, June 25.
It's alleged that on April 12, the accused who had a long-standing feud with the deceased, had a heated argument at a shop in the community. During the dispute, a knife was reportedly used to stab Edwards to death.
It is also alleged that the deceased attacked the accused with stones before he was stabbed in his chest and abdomen. He ran off after receiving the wound, but collapsed and died in the middle of the Pepper main road in front of the shop at which the incident took place.
A few hours later, the accused man turned himself over to the Santa Cruz police and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
