It is certainly her prerogative and she is doing nothing wrong. However I disagree that its a good thing for the election date to be exclusively in the hands of the PM. It needs to be a fixed date that is known well in advance so the nation can plan its business around it. That will also make things easier for the electoral office and other bodies responsible for ensuring free and fair elections.

Of course since the current law always benefits the party in power there is never any incentive for the govt of the day to do anything to change it.
