It should be said that these babies were neo-natal (premature) and so were more susceptible to a bacteria outbreak than 18 "regular" babies.
It would be useful to know what are the typical statistics for an outbreak such as this in other countries, but of course in Jamaica we don't believe in facts and data in the best of times, and even less so in the political silly season.

42 infections at 2 hospitals ... 18 deaths, yet you make claim of political silly season? Oh boy ...

mosiah, the minister said he was not aware it but when he was he gave certain instructions, so if its a regular thing he's falling down on the job big time.

Yes I do, if it is not put in the context of what is "normal" for a hospital outbreak. They happen all the time.
you can tell yourself that. Furthermore, tell the mothers that it is because it is the political season. If it is the norm for 18 deaths in less than 4 months, then those in charge should simply say so instead of making themselves look ridiculous in various interviews? Or is it you know more than those doing the interviews? I know that Mosiah will walk in front of a moving train for the cause ... you I expected better from.

OK, lets break this down for you like you are a 2 year old.....
18 deaths in 4 months is clearly not normal....as there was a bacteria outbreak in a neo-natal ward. That is not a "normal" environment, clearly.
However for people to scream that 18 babies died in the hospitals without giving some context causes people to draw faulty conclusions about the nature of the outbreak and how appropriate or inappropriate the reaction to it was.
Now if the intent is simply to get the Minister of Health to resign then this approach is a perfectly logical strategy, perhaps he does need to resign.
However if the intent is to get an INFORMED understanding of the situation and what needs or needed to be done, then it makes sense to get more data and do a proper assessment of the situation. So far we have not got that from the MoH or anyone else involved in the story.

The outbreak of these bacteria are normal, what is not normal here is the high death rate. Not even the Permanent Sec. can tell you that. Based on the medical persons I hear say that it was controllable and that it help by taking basic precaution. You think the goal of most people who are talking about this is to get the minister to resign? or the fact that they didn't have an information and some lives could have been saved?
Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

What is the mortality rate for neo-natal babies under 2.5 pounds in Jamaica under normal conditions Sass? Do you have any idea?
No I do not think the majority of people who are talking about it are interested in the politics, BUT they are responding to what is being said in the media. If some context is not given then one can easily create mass hysteria for a situation which does not require it.
From what I am able to gather having done the research so far, the biggest blunder has been lack of communication within and from the Ministry of Health, just as it was for Chic-V. This inevtiably leads to a delayed response to the problem and at the very least the apprearance of a cover-up
