Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Phillip Paulwell says countries in the region are already displaying expressions of interest in sourcing gas from Jamaica which has its sight set on becoming a gas hub, working in collaboration with the US.
He noted that during the recent visit of US President Barack Obama to Jamaica, he met with the US secretary of energy, at which time the feasibility of establishing the country as a gas hub was discussed.
"In, fact when I met with the US secretary of energy when he visited with President Obama, we discussed in detail the fact that the US gas can enter the region in large vessels, can be transshipped from Jamaica in smaller vessels to other destinations and already we have been scouting the region and we are aware of countries that are interested as long as the price is right," Paulwell stated.
