My apologies then. I will now exercise the virtue of patience.

All is well so far, thanks for asking.

Some people are too busy designing and executing cutting edge STEM programs which help & inspire untold thousands of kids, to spend much time yappin about theories and faraway data sources

Yappin & posing as being knowledgeable is useless. I meet so many highly opinionated "experts" who use endless yappin as an excuse to do nothing. For years they claim to be "too busy" to do anything and too overextended to contribute money or goods... But they're never too busy to yap.

That type I have zero patience for

It's about actual WORK....Not endless yappin... but accomplishing nothing

There is a STEM centre in JA being operated by the GraceKennedy Foundation with a blue print for additional ones.

What you want to be said?!!

This fact finding publication (which came in 2014) is focusing on the basis of stem. Mathematics is the basis of all science subjects; if it's not approached with theoretical rigour then one will always lag behind (not being able to produce and being a consumer).

The article is basically saying nations in Latin America and the Caribbean (will call it LAC henceforth) needs a strong grounding in Math to compete in the 21st century. They also point out the need for more mathematicians. These mathematicians should then connect with educators at the elementary and secondary levels. This way they can develop a program to harness and nurture talent in math. When your university starts publishing regulary on theoretical subjects in Math and secondary students start attending the mathematical Olympiad (international ones) then the country is making strides. Why? You will get top quality engineers, computer scientists, economists, physicsts, business analysts, spelling bee champions (seeing that the game has been changed) et al.

Based on the report only venezuela, Brazil and to some extend Chile are on the cutting edge of research. Notice that these countries have extensive trade agreements which benefits them to an extent (ensuring a thriving economy). Without rigour in math Ja's stem program will only be surface level and can't be able to move the economy. You then have to ask the question does the powers that be in Ja really wanted the island to have a cutting edge math program?

Do you know ANYTHING about the STEM centre in Jamaica? Or the homework centres?

That's what the publication is addressing. Standardized tests are a mask. The math olympiad shows true understanding of the subject. Standardized test places emphasis on knowledge of a technique in solving problems. In the olympiad one has to explain why the technique works. This in turn places demands on one's knowledge of English (seeing that one's explanation has to be precise).

I'm sure these STEM centres are producing A students for math CAPE but put sample questions from the Olympiad before them and it's a different story. The report is true and for Ja to improve on the STEM front, Ja should heed its advice.

How do you know this and you haven't visited any?

I have visited one of the Grace homework centers on Water Lane and I can tell you that the curriculum they have is much more than preparing for CSEC and CAPE.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
