This possible waste is what I feared when I heard of this tablet thing..
If this waste manifests itself with the tablet giveaway... don't blame technology...blame lame policy that misunderstands & therefore misuses technology
Fortunately...we're developing a national app to help fix this deficit. Please stand byLast edited by Don1; September 16, 2015, 09:54 AM.TIVOLI: THE DESTRUCTION OF JAMAICA'S EVIL EMPIRE

Yup, its the bad workman, not the expensive tool. A good workman will use a far cheaper tool, commensurate with his budget and do a great job. When the cash starts to flow, only then will he invest in the higher costs tools that may save some time and reduce spoilage rates.
Same with us, we should use the cheap stuff and share techy resources until we start to produce and then we can invest in individualized tools. Bootstrap!

We discussed this at the start of the project.
When will be learn?- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

This is what people who just know theory but have zero experience in implementing successful STEM programs...don't knowTIVOLI: THE DESTRUCTION OF JAMAICA'S EVIL EMPIRE

Then as I said above - "properly used".
Mere access
I think Paulwell's thinking was introduction of the "teaching aid" to assist teachers in/on maximization of teaching and the students to maximize on learning???!!!
...or am I on the wrong path?"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Careful Willi. The study was done in Japan. You now have to find out if the tablets with apps were in Japanese or english. Studies have shown the that language determines how one views the world. Therefore even if in English, Japanese is these students first language, thus the students think in terms of Japanese (studies say even if you speak another language the native one is where your thoughts lie).
Waiting for the study in the US. I see my kids with apps for comprehension and some math (math that deals with sequencing and so forth). I was so impressed with the apps that I told my wife wipe angry birds, star wars, little pigs et al from their kindle. This way they can focus on the educational apps. They said they can wipe them by themselves and did. You know how many times we have to call amazon about them ordering stuff? They cease with the kindle but now still ordering with their computer (because my wife keep using their computer).
Kids are curious and those apps that I see my kids have is something else (makes them investigate). Ah mean outside of temple run. I asked why you guys buy Bolt in temple run? They say because he is fast (on the app that is). I laugh. I leave them to investigate, crash, fix and learn.
Please that study has to come to the US first.

After you do answer the above - In the context of "outcomes sometimes surprise", give your thoughts on the pluses and minuses of introduction of this 'teachers' aid'?!"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

With the money that will be spent on DEVICES for this project...we could revolutionize the entire Jamaican STEM Ed landscape with very SMART applications
Devices are merely more fancy tools than we have currently. STEM Education is not about the devices... it's about the KNOWLEDGE APPLICATIONS. It's on knowledge apps that the bulk of funds should be spentLast edited by Don1; September 16, 2015, 02:46 PM.TIVOLI: THE DESTRUCTION OF JAMAICA'S EVIL EMPIRE
