Love is a serious thing, says judge

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey last week concluded that love was a "serious thing" after listening to a man accused of chopping his girlfriend over her body during a dispute sparked by an allegation of infidelity.
Daniel Byfield is accused of using a machete to chop the complainant in her face, on her head, arm, left side and leg.
The complainant reportedly went to visit Byfield, father of her child, at his home in Red Hills, St Andrew, on July 27, when the incident occurred.
According to the police report, the complainant went to Byfield's home around 5:00 am and saw him sleeping. She touched him and Byfield reportedly got out of the bed, grabbed her hair and started hitting her head against a wall.
