As Wall St Money Games show: What goes up must come down. Gravity is inescapable

    OPINION
China's great crash: Signs of trouble?
The stock market crash could mean an economic downturn in the near future.

21 Jul 2015 10:03 GMT | Business & Economy, Asia, China, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang

For years, leading experts have been warning about an impending structural downturn in China's economy, a prospect that looks highly likely as the Asian powerhouse runs out of export markets, cheap labour, and "ghost cities" to build.

But few foresaw the dramatic crash in China's burgeoning stock markets, which arguably has foreshadowed other major international developments such as the Iranian nuclear negotiations as well as the Greek bailout drama.

In the span of a few weeks, China's stock markets have lost a staggering $3.4 trillion, an amount that is larger than the economy of most nations. The Shanghai index has lost 32 percent of its value since mid-June.

the Chinese economy does not now or has it ever danced to the tune of western economic principles.

depends on what is termed western economics principle. A few years ago you hear the term "new economy' was been brandish as US stop producing and people indulge. Only it was the same ole economy.

China has grown leaps and bound like any other country and with over 3 odd years of over 6 percent economic growth. That is unheard of but some inflated growth, corruption and speculation is going to take place and ofcourse this bring some trouble. Let us hope the Chinese will be able to overcome quickly as this will affect us all if it doesn't

China could learn from the US economy. It is very resilient. Check the history of the US economy. ...........

Remember a few years when Gold investment was carrying the swing? Today the US $ is very very strong on the world market.

yeah? how come china holds most of the us debt? how did the trade arrangement wok out for each?

check the history of business in CHINA ... spans some 6K yers. Chinese invented the use of paper money ... just look how Chinese business people operate in Jamaica!

china's approach to long term planning is second to none.

            "misunderestimate" then at your peril.
