I do picture movie told from Jimmy's point of view, a story of him triumphing over all the evils he encountered to still end up happily married with children.

He most likely died a slave, but with a bit of artistic licence, the movie could also touch on how Jimmy could have brought up his kids with his mentality, to refuse to be broken and to resist no matter the odds. His children could have experienced freedom.
