  • Man gets 30 month sentence for stealing cell phone

Not just any cell phone, mind you, but the JPS Ceo's cell phone! Justice?

A man implicated in the theft of a high-end cellphone owned by Jamaica Public Service CEO Kelly Tomblin was slapped with a 30-month prison sentence, while his co-accused walked out of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court a free woman last Wednesday.

Damion Palmer, also known as Kedon, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property.

The court heard that the accused man was in possession of the Samsung S5 cellular phone, valued $90,000, and sold it to co-accused Alecia Smith for $25,000.

Petty thieves,no ambition at all or they would have aligned themselves with an electric company that extorts much more(even making the judge a victim)only to receive a pat on the shoulder when exposed by OUR for taking something that does not belong to them.

        I don't know about this.

I hate thieves, however "petty", but I would have to know what's the usual sentence for other phone thieves. I'd like to think the sentence had nothing to do with the status of the victim. On the other hand, maybe the status the victim does matter as she could have had some serious information on that phone.

And then there is the issue of giving long prison sentences to non-violent offenders...

Now, this could easily be a sillier question than the Cayman one I asked!
