An alumna of Shaw University will be the school’s next president.
The university’s board of trustees on Saturday elected Tashni Dubroy, who previously was special assistant to the president for process optimization and chair of the university’s Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Dubroy graduated in 2002. She then earned a doctorate in chemistry from North Carolina State University.
Dubroy’s appointment begins Aug. 1.
She will become Shaw’s 17th president, replacing acting president Gaddis Faulcon, who began his temporary appointment in January 2014. The last permanent president of Shaw, Dorothy Cowser Yancy, retired at the end of 2013.
Shaw, the first historically black university in the South, is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
