Definitely not looking for a "nice" fix, but I am hoping for an "effective" fix.
If the end result is that the majority is worse off than they were before, and only a few connected people benefit I don't see how that is a success.
I don't think dicatatorship is required, Africa certainly does not have a good record when that path is followed. However a strong government role is necessary, maybe some special powers for a limited time. Even that approach will only work with a strong, competent and largely incorruptible leader at the helm though. Those have not been easy to find.
