This is useless and long ago debunked as rubbish.... Typically unscientific, flawed garbage that Jamaicans follow and get excited about like the unthinking lemmings they are

Serious people interested in the status of schools examine the granular studies done by the Ministry of Education's School Inspectorate

But this is too complicated for lemmings to comprehend

I dont see why 100% of the schools could not be over 80%. Cornah dark.
Yes boys are in serious trouble. So what's the cure? Admit girls to boys' schools???

Nope...that merely papers over the cracks by perhaps boosting that particular school's outcomes with higher performing girls. In fact boys are further marginalized by being denied spaces in schools that have the ability to transform them if they try. It's actually a self-centered approach that worsens the problem with boys.

Leadership in education requires schools to give MORE to boys to assist them to progress.... not less. That means better teaching, discipline and also more innovative programs that can capture the interest of boys who learn more by DOING. This is where STEM programs like robotics, aviation or maritime studies are invaluable

Jamaican education needs reform & leadership to transform itself. It's still stuck in the 1960s traditional vs non-traditional school bull shiit... and that's part of the reason the society is failing.

Some are ordained to be the nation's leaders... no surprise there

What is in these inspectorates that would debunk those rankings?

What I mean is that this flawed study may have indicative value but is useless in a so called "school ranking".

The methodology used is flawed because schools have divergent approaches to test taking. Some design student test taking to optimize outcomes in unscientific studies like these... So we're dealing with an apples vs oranges scenario. This reminds me of that ludicrous "prison study" that similarly had ignoramuses in a tizzy

The studies are granular.. i.e. they record all the metrics relevant to education outcomes at schools...including exam performance

Rankings like this are for simpletons to get excited about. Education professionals don't take such things seriously. They're actually damaging since they mask the real problems of underperformance

It took me a long time to set that low standard PR. I figure....first establish a low hanging fruit--and move from there. But 80% should be the standard (I agree).

Is this the first time a study like this has been done?

It is an excellent 'mirror' for the country. This MUST become an annual survey:

Also, those schools with names of folks like Merlene Ottey, Donald Quarrie, et al., I wonder what those outstanding people feel about their names associated with educational failure?
