information. We all know of Columbus, but this man?

Don't ask me why there is a painting of Ira Aldridge on NiƱo's page. Ira was a Shakespearean actor in the 19th Century, also of African heritage.

There has been an ongoing debate about this. Last thing I heard was that it has been acknowledged that the photo could not be Jennings, based on the technology available when he would have been of an age close to the person in the photo - he was born in 1791, photography was "invented" around 1837 and was not commercially available for some time after that.

The Jamaica Historical Society say they are "reasonably certain" it is Bogle.

Well someone or some institution needs to carify this. Things have to be thoroughly researched these days. Small wonder in the academia some professors refuse citations from wikipedia (as it can be edited on the fly) they would rather see a book cited with author, publisher and ISBN.

This is a project suitable for some department at UWI.

A paper could be published in some Journal of History to establish the facts on the identity of the individuals.

I am sure other similar uncertainty of individuals and issues exists.

              So is Bogle really Bogle........"

Very interesting post PR and King Jawge!!

I agree Jawge. I would like to see some information on what was done to verify its authenticity.

We will probably never be 100% certain but at least show the evidence used to defend the position that it is Bogle.
