    THERE was a dream of a prosperous Jamaica, free of debt and able to pay its bills. One could merely whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it could vanish, so fragile was it. But it was the dream of a few stubborn men who could not be convinced that there was no oil or gas on or offshore Jamaica. And still the dream lives on.

    I think it is there and shall be a game changer.
    The questions surround:
    - Location?
    i) Is it at depth where currently technology can make for commercially viable 'entity'?

    ii) Is it at depth where currently technology cannot make for commercially viable 'entity' then when will the technology 'catch up' to allow for commercial viable entity?

    - ...then timing of production when it is decided/proven that there can be commercial exploitation?

      How much of a game changer has asphalt and oil been to trinidad oil to ,venezuela pre Chavez, Brazil pre Lula,Nigeria now ?

            What I think underlies your comment is - A call for thinking on what inept and corrupt politicians can do even in the face of God given bounty! - Right?

                I am watching with interest the recent global developments in the energy industry. The primary reason for the falling price of oil is that OPEC is trying to price out some of the new sources of hydrocarbons and other forms of energy , places like the USA, who are gradually making them less and less of a force to be reckoned with.

                At $50-$60 a barrel many will be just about breaking even and not expand production any more until they find a way to reduce the cost of production . At those price alternative energy sources also become much less attractive given todays cost of production. However these will also continue to fall as technology improves.

                Long term I am fairly optimistic that the price of energy has a gradually falling ceiling ,absent wars or other forms of unrest. This will help to drive global productivity forward in the years to come.

                        See,Guyana found oil in S America
                        Here in the Caribbean Jamaica and Cuba are exploring for oil.Cuba with the help of Venezuela and Jamaica with the help from Britain/Ireland .See what's remarkable about Tullow, they specialized in small to medium oil and gas fields.wi ah guh get sumtin man,larger than small ,smaller than medium.

                          what about the gulf is'nt it at a deeper in depth?.

                            Agree. Given the mindset of the people who control Jamaica, finding oil could be a big curse for the poor people of Jamaica. Could make the Niger Delta look like the Garden of Eden.

                              Every country has oil but is it worth exploiting?. The Stabroek shelf of Guyana probably has the largest oil and gas reserves on the planet and is worth exploiting at current prices. If the inept and corrupt Jamaican politicians and their cronies think they are going to be that lucky, I think they have another think coming.
