  • Don't laugh at a man that bleach him face!

Why? Him may get the last laugh.

    Shottas under cover

It is amazing how far gunmen will go to commit crimes. The WEEKEND STAR's June 1 lead story reported the latest trend in which they 'bleach' their faces to hide from the cops.

This is quite an alarming trend, to say the least, and I think that if the gunmen are bleaching their faces to hide, then all men who bleach should be checked by police during their routine operations.

The 'bleachers' are only a few among the 2.6 million Jamaicans so surely cops would not have an arduous task catching the criminals.

The story also raises the need for cops to be given the technology to generate images of the criminals so that the public can have pictures of wanted men. I am certain that several of the 'bleachers' have been walking around in various communities with residents oblivious to the fact that they are criminals.

It is also important, in light of the trend, for the police to also have technology that can be used to alter images. This will allow cops to have a proper representation of the wanted man who has bleached.

If police had this technology, then certainly the 'bleachers' who use this medium to hide will have to devise other strategies since the police will be able to create an updated photo of them and properly distribute them.

Gunmen in Jamaica are clearly set on terrorising citizens and obviously the cops need to arrest the situation before it gets out of hand. The Government needs to give more resources to the police as no matter how the police try, the lack of resources continues to place our gunmen ahead of them.

Its important to note that traffic police are also in need of resources. This became clearer following last week's incident in which two persons were killed by a bus at the bus stop.

Subsequent reports from police indicate that the bus driver was a repeat offender with several warrants out for him. However, because there was no system linking the police to the Transport Authority, the driver continued to operate.

Once again, the lack of resources is at fault. If the Government cannot afford the technology then they should probably think about making up a simple list of wanted drivers which is sent to the Authority at regular intervals.

There must something that can be done to curb the problem. It is clear that resource shortage has hampered our cops' ability to work effectively and efficiently.
