Historic Leap: Jamaica Surges 36 Places In Doing Business Rankings

Jamaica has achieved the Caribbean region's highest ranking on the ease of doing business, and has jumped 36 places to 58 among 189 economies worldwide, according to the just-released Doing Business 2015 report.

Last year, Jamaica ranked 94. Its vault up the rankings breaks a nine-year streak of decline.

However, the island has received a rap on the knuckles for the slow place of developing electronic interfaces that accompany its extensive reforms and for higher taxation costs.

why is it useless?

i think that foreign investors do look at these things (among others...e.g. justice system) to determine if they should invest and over the medium term such information/statistics play a role in making those determination...

Economy Rankings
Economies are ranked on their ease of doing business, from 1–189. A high ease of doing business ranking means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm. The rankings are determined by sorting the aggregate distance to frontier scores on 10 topics, each consisting of several indicators, giving equal weight to each topic. The rankings for all economies are benchmarked to June 2014.
