    In some parts of Ethiopia, finding potable water is a six-hour journey.

    People in the region spend 40 billion hours a year trying to find and collect water, says a group called the Water Project. And even when they find it, the water is often not safe, collected from ponds or lakes teeming with infectious bacteria, contaminated with animal waste or other harmful substances.

    A dehumidifier does the same thing but the water is not potable. What is the difference?

      Perhaps it does not use toxic metals like commercial dehumidifiers, stuff like lead, for example.

            i would think that a part of it has to do with what may be in the water particles in the air ... that is what concerns me.

              Contaminants from the filter process. Also a mechanical device requiring electricity & maintenance would not be appropriate for the circumstances intended
