THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM amazed that we are talking about giving 'Sista P' her own mandate as she cannot change that which she inherited overnight. That statement alone is in itself a condemnation of the policies of the People's National Party Government, of which she has been a part for the last 18 years. If we are not to ascribe blame at her feet for the failures, that she now needs her own mandate to correct, then we need to ask certain pertinent questions.
Over the last 18 years, has she voted against any policies at Cabinet, or has she cited disapproval of any policies at NEC? Having been a senior vice-president of the party, what has been her role in thedecision-making process over the past 18 years? If it is that she now needs her own mandate to correct the many wrongs of the last 18 years, what was her role in the 2002 'don't stop the progress' campaign for the fourth term. Under collective responsibility, is she accepting any blame for the mess we have found ourselves in?
I also need to ask, since the budget of last year was not her own, why is she claiming or allowing any success of last year to be ascribed to her? Finally, who is really pulling the strings in the party and at Jamaica House?
I am believing it is a matter of same bus, different driver. Under the circumstances, it is, therefore, time for a different bus, a different route and a different driver. Time for Jamaica to look up.
