(TRNS) – An unresponsive aircraft that had been flying over the Atlantic Ocean and over Cuban airspace has reportedly crashed in Jamaica, the Associated Press reports.
According to the AP, Jamaican authorities made the announcement shortly after the plane had left Cuban airspace, when it was widely believed the plane was severely low on fuel.
Before the crash, NORAD, the North American air defense network, said Friday that it had dispatched two F-15 fighter jets in response to an unresponsive Aircraft that was flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
The aircraft itself is not a commercial airliner, and was described by NORAD as a “light business and utility aircraft.”
NORAD said the aircraft has been unresponsive to this point, and says it may be a result of hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation.
