Waukesha police arrested Erik D. Heinrich, age 26. of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and charged him with three counts of burglary.
Heinrich allegedly stole 1,500 pairs of girls shoes from all three Waukesha high schools and a middle school in nearby Butler. Heinrich told police he had a shoe fetish.
"He liked to smell them," said Lieutenant William Graham of the Waukesha Police Department.
Police also recovered from Heinrich's home and storage locker "numerous"
photos of high school age girls, socks, panties, and newspaper clippings.
Heinrich gained access to the schools by using master keys he kept while working as a cable installer. He used a tool to cut padlocks on individual lockers.
In 2005, Heinrich was arrested for breaking into a Kenosha high school. He pled guilty to a misdemeanor in a plea deal. The charges were dropped by prosecutors after Heinrich completed probation, counseling, and community service. Police also recovered a floor plan of one of Kenosha's four high schools.
Heinrich is being held on $10,000 bail.
