  • Humanizing Mario Deane

After Mario graduated from Rusea's, he completed a data entry course with HEART Trust and secured employment at Media Track at Freeport in Montego Bay. He subsequently did courses in waiting and catering, and at one time, worked in the hotel sector.

"His true passion was to be an architect," Frazer said.

"To accomplish this, he started working in construction, doing carpentry and masonry. He had signed up to take a carpentry course with HEART so that he could improve his skills. He was a bit of a perfectionist. He liked to have everything done perfectly. He was supposed to be starting the carpentry course with HEART in a few weeks.

"I want justice for my son … . In his 31 years, he had a crime-free record before he was arrested for that ganja spliff," said Frazer. "While it is now too late for Mario, I don't want to see the same thing happen to another person's child."

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Surprised that some human rights org said ganja had nothing to do with it,common sense and history says different, the ganja laws is the chief tool used by the state to dehumanize the poorer class, Rastas historically felt the brunt of this ,how can that be said when the instigating fact for his arrest was a spliff, the change in the laws this week was to specifically deal with spliff arrest.

True the actions of the state were human rights issues but for anyone to ignore the instigating historical factors of ganja criminalization, dehumanization, is ridiculous, here was a law that criminalized to take away the economic freedom to work ,earn money, which would mean economic degradation, caught in this net are the poorer class who happen to be men of african genes, the next step would be mental and physical dehumanization.Chief use of the law was control.

What happened to Mr Deane was just that.If we can admit aparthate is a human rights issue, why not the criminalization of ganja, aparthate is criminalizing based on color which lead to many Mario Deane ,not liking police in S.A.

Ganja criminalizing is based on cultural use.The denial is also based in cultural perspectives.

Aparthate does not exist. Apartheid is pronounced "aparthate" though.
