The year is 2030, the venue is the National Arena.... the event is the Caribbean Regional FIRST Robotics Championships

The stands are packed with 15,000 spectators cheering on 100 primary schools in the Lego League Championship and 100 high schools in the FIRST Tech Challenge... A total of 3000 budding engineers and scientists, 12-19 y.o. proudly represent their schools with robots they've designed, built & programmed

Assisting the teams are 400 graduates of Jamaican high school robotics... all either in college or having already graduated with STEM-related degrees

On the sidelines the college booths feature reps from UWI, Utech, UCC, NCC, Rensselaer Polytechnic, Brooklyn Poly, Georgia Tech and others.... all offering the participants scholarships to their computer tech and engineering programs

Prime Minister Holness... newly installed after 18 years in the wilderness, gives the keynote address... entitled "Vision 2050- Developed Nation Status through Stem" (since di PNP dun flop di program)

Unfortunately Jamaican people, generally, are not up to speed with modern trends... except with sports & music

We're still stuck focusing on mid-20th Century models of education... the 3 Rs, rote learning and .... Schools Challenge Quiz & Spelling Bees as the ultimate in inter-school academic competition

          Pretty sad picture...

We are at the cutting edge of modern scamming techniques as well.

Ah well, we can only keep spreading the message across the hills and valleys and hope the next generation will make the change.
