True, plus if they de-silted, they could sell the valuable top soil!

New construction in Kgn is now mandated to have cisterns to collect rain water from roof. This was the case in St Croix from at least 1982.

75% of the water in underground pipes leak out before use.

We ghave been too short term oriented for too long.

Build the backup for it now then...

Plus there must be other ways to de-silt while it still is in commission.

Sure, that certainly needs to be done. My point is that it is not a "simple" thing to fix. Takes expertise, money and planning none of which we are known to have in abdundance.

Not an excuse, it is the reality.

Like so many things it needs to be done and it is not done. Why? Because like so many things of some complexity it takes leadership, planning and execution.

We are generally not good at those. We are good at talking about it.

Yep, St Thomas been having big problems. Most of the south coast in fact.

Assasin, here is an explanation of some of the problems, faced and solutions that need to be found. He recommends some of the things you have suggested but also addresses the larger solutions.

                        http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2...ead/lead3.html

On the issue of the damming of the Bog Walk gorge, he said the agency conducted an assessment and the findings deemed it unfeasible; however, with China Harbour Engineering Company putting together a proposal, he would await the findings from their geotechnical investigation and the assessments of the flows, which would determine a decision.

"The fact is a lot of people are saying we need to do this and we need to do that, but they are not considering the many factors that impact carrying out those processes. It is not just having water. It is a matter of infrastructure, energy, practicality, feasibility, affordability, environmental impact, solving one problem but creating another, can you recuperate from that investment, and so on," noted Fernandez.
