  • Great Ska News!

Now this has to be one of most positive local musical developments in a long, long time! Much respect to the JCDC for this important, long-overdue venture. Let us hope that this plan is fully and successfully implemented (unlike so many other laudable ventures that have fallen by the wayside.)

THE Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is adding a new event to its calendar this year.

The event, Heart of Ska Festival, is slated for the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew on Saturday, August 12.

According to Dahlia Harris, director of culture in the Ministry of Youth and Culture, the festival's main objective is to reposition Jamaica as the home of ska music, which has become increasingly popular in Europe and USA.

    Yes sir , i concur.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

I can only hope it is well supported. It needs to be. Too much of our culture is not supported. If is not dancehall or Calypso more times it empty.

Sounds like it is more of a local thing to get re-established. They would need a lot more time, and money, to do a proper international promo.

                    Hopefully that will come later.

Yes, Reggaedoc, I distinctly remember both you and X being consistent in your posts, calling for a rebirth of ska.

Also, as was said above by other posters, for this ska renaissance to be successful, major foreign promotion is extremely important.
