Study: Rise in fatal crashes linked to pot use

Increase may cause some to rethink marijuana legalization efforts.

When police responded to a five-car crash near Monroe, Washington, last week they wound up arresting a local woman blamed with driving under the influence of marijuana.
A total of 12 people were injured in the accident, but they might count themselves lucky considering the results of a new study published by Columbia University, which finds the number of fatal crashes involving the use of marijuana tripled from 2000 to 2010.

These studies cant show two things ,1 ) whom caused the accident at fault , was it the ganja user or the non ganja user , 2) Was the ganja consumed at the time of accident or how long before time of accident.

If they can answer that , it would go a far way , it seems to be conviently left out .Those are two key issues to address before making that claim, that said it could be true, and i am against anyone driving and smoking weed.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

If a higher percent of Ganja smokers are crashing, it doesn't matter if it is in the system for one or 30 days, it deserves some attention. As you know many people drive when they are "blackup" under their weed.

Police in th US say they prefer ganja smokers to alcohol drinkers...why>?

Ganja smokers get mellow and drive slower. Drunks get more aggressive and drive faster!

Alcohol abuse is by far more dangerous in my view. It has cost a lot more lives to be lost.

you can say that now but if Herb becomes legal it could cost as much. Smoking herb can impare your vision and some drivers will react slower to incidents while others will fall asleep.

None is good choice for driving.

where are you getting your info from? Cmon son:

Although some research has found an association between long-term marijuana use and motor vehicle accidents, other studies suggest that this association decreases or even disappears once other variables—such as gender and risky driving behaviour—have been controlled for
marijuana use did not appear to impact on driver sleepiness or motivation, and there were no effects of marijuana on driving (in relation to either driving ability or subjective feelings) 24 hours following administration. -
