  • Is Ganja addictive ? For the MAJ and money seeking clinics

Former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders characterized marijuana succinctly on CNN recently, while declaring her support for legalization: “Marijuana is not addictive, not physically addictive anyway.”

Dr. Jack E. Henningfield of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and Dr. Neal L. Benowitz of the University of California at San Francisco ranked six substances based on five problem areas.
Withdrawal: Presence and severity of characteristic withdrawal symptoms.
Reinforcement: A measure of the substance's ability, in human and animal tests, to get users to take it again and again, and in preference to other substances.
Tolerance: How much of the substance is needed to satisfy increasing cravings for it, and the level of stable need that is eventually reached.
Dependence: How difficult it is for the user to quit, the relapse rate, the percentage of people who eventually become dependent, the rating users give their own need for the substance and the degree to which the substance will be used in the face of evidence that it causes harm.
Intoxication: Though not usually counted as a measure of addiction in itself, the level of intoxication is associated with addiction and increases the personal and socIal damage a substance may do.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Oklahoma Senator Quotes Genesis 1:29 to Seek Marijuana Legalization

"God created this wonderful, miraculous plant and we know that it has been vilified for the last 100 years, and it's time to change that in Oklahoma," added the senator, who has led efforts, along with attorney David Slane, to legalize pot.

The advocates of marijuana will require 160,000 signatures from registered voters within three months to get the proposal on a statewide ballot.

"We've experienced anything from downright disregard to ignoring us to telling us to, 'Go to hell' pretty much," Johnson said. "And this is where we've had to go. We're taking this to a vote of the people because we know the people of the State of Oklahoma, in spite of what the policymakers refuse to do, want to have a voice on this matter."

So thats the addictive debate a vague classification ,on par or below caffiene(coffe) to do what ,garner money in treatment centers ! that said looking at Jamaica or any nation with a cultural use of ganja, they can be classified as addicts, why ? because of just that cultural use, its all psychological ,belief and love of self, purpose culture! defined is

      * Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments in artifacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional ideas and especially their attached values; *culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as products of action, on the other hand, as conditioning influences upon further action.
*Culture is the sum of total of the learned behavior of a group of people that are generally considered to be the tradition of that people and are transmitted from generation to generation.
*Culture is a collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another.

So yes Jamaicans are addicted to ganja like coffe, tea and cocoa in a cultural sense and no amount of therapy will wean us from it.

That is the science...common freaking sense.

That said anyone who says they are adicted to ganja and it affects them in such away to impact meaningful life, needs a psych consult because the addiction sure as hell isnt physical, and that condition is probably a genetic predisposition to some DSM disorder. This addiction thing is the biggest scheme since time began.Where were all these ganja addicts when ganja was legal ? when opium was legal you had documented proof of its addiction to justify its illegality, same with crack and Heroin, but you take 70 plus years to make up this scheme?
