The secret service knows what they are doing. My guess is that the locked down that section of the park and 'eyeballed' and sniffed everything on the route. They probably search those who were allowed to go near him.

Bill Clinton use to go by the Washington Mall but there was shooting and the secret service told him, no more visits to the mall. Bill Clinton said that the secret service is the only people who regular told him, no Mr. President.
