Gotta smile! ...as I said sometime after her lastest election win...what shall be said when her record, in context of where JA was when she won that last election, is being debated?

Reduction in %age unemployment rate=rise in %employment rate?

      Improved infrastructure?

More citizens on an upward financial path?

      Improved economy?

      Improve citizen satisfaction index?

What will those who have been encouraging the embedding of crass behavior into the psyche of our young and citizens at large? We know they are currently proud of themselves... Have they no shame?

Ah bwoy,we just love to beat up on her.
Phillips and Paulwell gave Simpson a basket to carry water, how did we get passed them???
The amazing thing Obama has accomplished domestically will be overlooked....,the truth will be hiding in plain sight.
When Portia has distinguished(one way or the other) herself from all the other former PM's focussing on her will then be justified.

Rocky you should consider getting over your sensitivity to Portia being criticized... why shouldn't she be? She put herself out there as leader so it goes with the territory.

Portia is a hands-off leader who is out of her depth on most policy issues... but she has managed a critical strategic accomplishment which NO other leader in our history has....i.e. engaging the Opposition, private sector, labour movement etc in an effective Social Contract in the midst of an economic and social crisis. That took great political skill

Jamaica now has a WEAKER but apparently effective version of my key suggestion of a social compact to give the country a chance to coalesce around common goals with accountability to the public

It is this social contract which is key to keeping the country from breaking out in chaos...and gives us a chance to progress.

So kudos to her, the JLP and the other social partners

Yup.. it's the reasoning behind all the civil society oversight committees on the IMF Agreement, LNG energy plans etc. Which is why if all or most of the civil society (private sector especially) is opposed to some GOJ move... the GOJ MUST satisfy them.

We see that forced GOJ response with the bank tax withdrawal and EWI dismissal

                              Partnership for Jamaica agreement signed
                              Posted: August 1, 2013

The Partnership for Jamaica Agreement was signed yesterday. The partners in the agreement are the government, opposition, private sector, the trade unions, and civil society.

Partnership for Agreement or the Social Partnership Agreement is designed to encourage democracy, thorough participatory decision making and meaningful participation from all partners involved in nation building.

Speaking at the signing, Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen said similar agreements have been signed before but none as important as this one. He said the partnership agreement is important at a time when the country is at what he describes as a proverbial cross roads in its development.

For her part, Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller expressed her gratitude to the partners who signed the agreement and commended them for their commitment to nation building. She said that all the partners need to ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibilities under the agreement for the sake of the country.

Meanwhile, the parties to the Partnership for Jamaica Agreement have expressed commitment to the contract. The agreement involved members from the private and public sectors making a written commitment to work together on nation building.

Representative of Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network, Kemmesha Kelly who represented the civil society group said the partners in the agreement need to be held accountable to their commitments and be sanctioned for non-compliance. She also highlighted the importance of the impact of this agreement to future generations.

President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, Lloyd Goodleigh said that while the partnership may cause some personal or group loss for those involved, it is necessary for the future of the country. He added that for Jamaicans to live and make decisions that do not consider the wider populous this will counter the country's goals for growth and development.

And president of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) Christopher Zacca noted that the parties to the agreement should be free to criticize the actions of another if the actions are not in keeping with the agreement or beneficial to the country.
