Why Jamaicans Run So Fast: The Only Sensible Reason

Perhaps the most frequent and most annoying question I get asked as a Jamaican is “Why do Jamaicans run so fast?” Everybody and their grandmother wants to know the answer to this question as if it holds the secret to life. When I say I do not know, people look at me as if to question my nationality. It is as if when Jamaican babies are born there is someone who stamps this secret on the bottom of their foot and so every Jamaican person is expected to know it. Even more annoying are the silly assumptions people make: yam, having to run from gunshots, having to run from police, drugs, yam (really guys?!).
