The Government has now signed the Framework Agreement with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) for the development of a transshipment hub in the Portland Bight.

According to a report from the Jamaica Information Service, JIS, a signing ceremony took place on Friday at the Ministry of Transport and Works.

the CHEC project is, first and foremost, an industrial complex with an associated port to support the activities of the zone.

"The port will be a mixed-use facility. It is proposed that it will house the assembly plant for cranes and other port-related equipment. It will also serve as the home base for CHEC's dredging and harbour-building equipment, for use in projects throughout the hemisphere," he stated.

KCT is a layup...a port with volumes around 3 million TEUs that is attractive to the industry players which can grow the existing business.... nothing groundbreaking there
