    Is The Constitution A Sham?
    Published: Friday | March 21, 2014 0 Comments

A Constitution is a set of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state is governed. The Constitution of Jamaica is a shackle which binds both Jamaican citizens and the Jamaican Government.

Three years ago, the Parliament amended the Constitution of Jamaica to add a Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. Section 13(2)(b) states, inter alia, that "no organ of the state shall take any action which abrogates, abridges or infringes those rights". Sounds like a shackle to me.

Paragraph (3) of Section 13 defines the 19 fundamental rights and freedoms of every Jamaican which the Jamaican State must defend. The fundamental right listed as (L) reads as follows: "The right to enjoy a healthy and productive environment free from the threat of injury or damage from environmental abuse and degradation of the ecological heritage."

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Environment Group Seeks Funding For Goat Island's Study

      KINGSTON, Jamaica:
The Caribbean Coastal Area Management (C-CAM) Foundation says it is raising funds to hire an international firm to do a cost effectiveness comparison of developing a port at the Goat Islands versus the Kingston Harbour.

C-CAM does conservation work in the Portland Bight Protected Area where the Goat Islands are located.

There has been much public debate since it was announced that China Harbour Engineering company was looking to build a transhipment port on the Goat Islands.

However, C-CAM’s Executive Director, Ingrid Parchment, says much of the discussion pits the environment against the economy without any meaningful conversation about the true costs and benefits of the proposed port development.

She says C-CAM wants to understand the country’s options by getting a better sense of the financial and environmental costs of the proposed port development versus other potential sites.
