Four hours after gunmen hijacked a delivery truck o Villa Road, tied up the two side-men in the back of the truck and emptied the boxes of Busta soft drinks from the vehicle, the body of the driver was found, about two miles away in downtown Kingston, wrapped in a white, striped sheet.
He has been identified as George Lawrence of a Stony Hill address in St. Andrew. He was employed to Jamaica Beverages Limited, a Portmore, St. Catherine-based company, as a salesman/driver.
Multiple stab wounds
Clad in a white T-shirt and a pair of light-blue jeans, Lawrence's body was bound, his mouth and nose wrapped with a piece of silver-looking cellophane tape, and placed in a large plastic bag. His T-shirt was soaked with blood from the multiple stab wounds to his upper body. The police said there was a large wound to his throat.
The Gleaner understands that Lawrence's body was dumped near the intersection of George's Lane and Tower Street, by occupants travelling in a white car which was driven down George's Lane.
Reports are that Lawrence and his two sidemen left their Portmore base to make several deliveries in the Corporate Area yesterday.
The police said they made a stop in the Kingston Mall area of downtown when they were approached by two men travelling in a Toyota Corolla motor car at about 8:30 a.m.
The men commandeered the vehicle which was found a half an hour later, parked off Slipe Pen Road, with the two sidemen in the back. Lawrence's body was found four hours later. The sidemen, who were unharmed, were being questioned up to last night by detectives attached to the Kingston Central division and the Major Task Force Unit.
