Some people act as if it will be ready by next year. 10 years is a long time in technology so I look forward to a lot of improvement in that time but how many gineupigs will be sacrificed? I wanted to comment here but was busy last week. This is why I placed emphasis on Ja's math education reform. It's up to the engineers and comp scientist to have deep understanding of linear algebra to move things from 2D to 3D. It's done all the time in vector space under linear transformation. Where one moves from say R2 to R3. If we look at say a cancer cell; it's viewed in 2D under microscope or on a computer screen but printing in 3D with its characteristics gives a researcher a better handle on things (see Yale's web page). The engineers can map it in 3D using linear transforms. hey the derivative is a linear transform (informally speaking: secant line moves to the tangent line here). Bottom line these new technologies are making it increasingly important for one to have a solid theoretical foundation in math. Biology majors must now study diff. equations as the ground work is being laid for humans to fuse with the chip (just to mention an aspect).
